What CQC inspects for dental practices
Dental practices are inspected under the CQC primary-care dental approach. The five key questions (Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, Well-led) apply the same way they do across all CQC-regulated services, but the evidence categories shift in specific places: infection prevention and control (IPC), decontamination records, radiation protection, dental nurse competence, child-protection referral records, and the safeguarding-of-vulnerable-adults evidence that mixed-NHS dental practices need to maintain.
Dental practices also have to satisfy several non-CQC regulators in parallel: the General Dental Council for professional standards, the Care Quality Commission for regulated activity, and (for NHS practices) the local commissioning body for contract terms. Verivius does not replace any of those; we record the governance trail cleanly so that what each regulator needs to see is in one structured place.
What the Verivius dental sector setup will cover
The sector setup is the dental-specific content that comes pre-loaded into your account on top of the core Verivius platform. It will include:
- Dental-specific incident categories (clinical incidents, decontamination breaches, sharps injuries, radiography incidents).
- IPC audit templates and decontamination log structure mapped to HTM 01-05.
- Dental-specific complaint categories with the routing to the appropriate body (NHS Resolution, GDC, private complaints process).
- Safeguarding referral records adapted for the dental practice context, including the child-protection referral path.
- Training matrix templates for dental professional roles (dental nurses, hygienists, therapists, dentists, dental technicians), with the CPD tracking the GDC requires.
- Mock Inspection methodology adapted for dental practice evidence categories.
