Sector
Verivius for Patient Transport and Independent Ambulance services
Built primarily for patient transport services (PTS): the CQC governance trail for the non-emergency, high-dependency and event-cover work that fills most jobs. Mental-Health-Act conveyance and secure-compartment transport sit in a dedicated refinement pack.
Who this is for
In the Verivius audience, around nine out of ten CQC- registered ambulance providers run patient transport services (PTS): non-emergency transfers, outpatient transport, hospital discharge transport, high-dependency transfers, bariatric transport. The sector pack is built primarily around that operational reality.
Event medical cover, bariatric transport, and private emergency services share enough of the operational shape to be served by the same pack. HEMS (helicopter EMS) is explicitly out of scope for Verivius v1.
For providers commissioned to convey Mental-Health-Act detained patients, run s135 or s136 transfers, or operate secure-compartment vehicles, the deeper restrictive- practice + RRN-training + commissioner-contract layer lives in a refinement pack. Read Verivius for secure patient transport.
What CQC inspects for ambulance services
Ambulance services are inspected under the CQC independent-ambulance strand. The five key questions apply, with particular evidence weight on patient-handover records, vehicle safety and maintenance evidence, infection prevention and control during transport, clinical decision records by crew, and medicines- management documentation for controlled drugs carried on vehicles. For Mental-Health-Act conveyance and secure- compartment transport the framework also asks about restrictive-practice records and the escort care-plan evidence trail; that deeper layer sits in the dedicated secure patient transport pack.
Independent ambulance providers satisfy CQC for regulated activity, the Health and Care Professions Council for paramedic registration, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency for vehicle compliance, and (where contracted) NHS trusts and integrated care boards for contract terms.
What the Verivius ambulance sector setup will cover
The ambulance sector setup is the ambulance-specific content that comes pre-loaded into your account on top of the core Verivius platform, built PTS-first. It will include:
- PTS-specific incident categories:refusal to board, patient deterioration en route, handover delays at receiving facility, missing handover paperwork.
- Vehicle-specific operational categories: road traffic collision with and without patient, vehicle breakdown mid-transport, equipment failure (oxygen, suction, monitoring), vehicle dispatched while unfit for use.
- Transfer-of-care records: delayed handover at receiving facility, missing handover documentation, wrong-destination transfer.
- Clinical categories that apply across PTS and emergency transport: medication errors en route, controlled-drug loss or discrepancy from a vehicle, patient deterioration during transport, clinical skill outside scope.
- Crew categories: intoxication on shift, driving-hours breach, assault by patient or bystander.
- Safeguarding category adapted for the transport context (short patient-facing time; patterns harder to spot than in residential care).
- Training matrix templates for ambulance roles (paramedics, technicians, ECAs, drivers, escort nurses for MH transport, control-room staff) with the mandatory cycles each role has.
- Mock Inspection methodology adapted for the ambulance evidence categories.
Status: live
The ambulance sector setup is live in Verivius v1. The taxonomy (vehicle and operational, clinical, transfer of care, PTS-specific, crew, complaints, safeguarding), frameworks (RIDDOR, MHRA Yellow Card, Duty of Candour, CQC notifications, NHS Complaints Regulations 2009 gated to NHS-funded transport, HCPC professional-regulator referrals) and assurance calendar (per-shift vehicle checks, per-shift CD stock, JRCALC training updates) are populated and verified against primary regulatory sources. Mental-Health-Act conveyance and s135 / s136 transfers sit in the refinement pack at Verivius for secure patient transport; both packs ship together.
